National Technology Transfer Center

The mission of The Robert C. Byrd National Technology Transfer Center's Emerging Minority Business Leaders (EMBL) is to develop and empower minority students to become the next generation of entrepreneurs and technology leaders for the advancement of American Society.

The National Technology Transfer Center (NTTC) is a full-service technology-management center, providing access to federal technology information, knowledge management and digital learning services, technology assessment, technology marketing, assistance in finding strategic partners, and electronic-business development services. The NTTC fosters relationships with federal clients, showcases technologies and facilitates partnerships between clients and U.S. industry.

Established by Congress in 1989, the Robert C. Byrd National Technology Transfer Center (NTTC) strengthens the competitiveness of U.S. industry by providing access to more than $70 billion worth of federally funded research. Thanks to the continued support of Senator Robert C. Byrd and Congressman Alan B. Mollohan, the NTTC is a recognized national asset located on the campus of Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia.

The NTTC offers a complete line of products and services enabling American businesses to find technologies, facilities and world-class researchers within the federal labs and universities needed to remain on the cutting edge of innovation. This alliance is a major reason why U.S. industry has regained its historic leadership in the highly competitive world marketplace of high technology. The Internet, biomedicine, laptop computers, supermarket barcode scanners and life saving drugs are just some of the everyday products that originated in federal laboratories or universities. Yet without industry developers, such ideas would remain on laboratory shelves. The United States is unique in having a wealth of publicly funded research together with an entrepreneurial economy. The NTTC bridges these two sectors.

With a full time staff of more than 120, the NTTC serves an impressive array of federal agencies and private sector organizations, ranging from small companies to Fortune 500 enterprises. Several universities, through a partnership between the NTTC and the Association of University Technology Managers, have been clients as well. For a listing of organizations, please see NTTC's client information.

The NTTC-through its programs, services and efforts to commercialize technologies-is laying the groundwork for the creation of new products, new jobs and new opportunities for America.
