MBRT Urges Swift Senate
Confirmation of Gary Locke
as Commerce Secretary
Washington,
D.C. - Roger
A. Campos, President &
CEO Minority Business
RoundTable today released
the following statement
in support of President
Obama's selection of former
Washington Governor Gary
Locke to be the next U.S.
Secretary of Commerce:
"MBRT
congratulates Governor
Locke on his nomination
as Commerce Secretary,"
said Roger A. Campos.
"This is a critical time
in our history as the
financial crisis has hit
world economies and dampened
international trade. We
need a proven executive
that understands how small
and medium sized businesses
can reduce our foreign
trade deficits with expansive
polices aimed at increasing
U.S. exports and markets
abroad. Governor Locke
has impressive credentials
dealing with China, one
of our leading trade partners.
He will be overseeing
the International Trade
Administration and export
commercial offices worldwide.
This will provide an invaluable
opportunity to redirect
U.S. policies towards
helping expand business
opportunities for small
and minority businesses
that are looking at international
markets for their products
and services."
MBRT
member, Laney Lee, President
American Asian Trade Center
with offices in Guangzhou,
Beijing, Shanghai, and
Baltimore said, "The Chinese
American community is
very pleased and proud
to have Governor Locke
at the helm of the Department
of Commerce which also
oversees the Minority
Business Development Agency.
This agency helps minority
businesses expand their
products and services
while providing important
tools to sustain business
operations and growth
by providing access to
capital and markets. This
mission becomes vitally
important when minority
businesses are fueling
economic growth in the
United States according
to the U.S. Census Bureau
which Governor Locke will
also oversee."
